Duo Shiluv

As a guitarist, I am drawn to the rare dialogue between guitar and cello—a pairing that opens up a sound world both intimate and expansive. In Duo Shiluv, with cellist Clara Franz, we explore this unique space where two very different instruments find balance and resonance. Our name, “Shiluv,” the Hebrew word for fusion or interweaving, expresses our guiding idea: we seek connections between different acoustic landscapes—exploring how classical and contemporary music can complement and transform one another in new ways. Our ensemble, founded in 2021 in Berlin and Frankfurt, has become a place to for us to search for new colors, to bridge centuries of music, and to bring fresh life to repertoire that is often overlooked.

For me, the beauty of this ensemble lies in its openness. The repertoire stretches from the timeless clarity of Bach to the restless energy of contemporary music. With Clara, I find myself in constant discovery: uncovering works by composers who are seldom played, and shaping familiar pieces anew through our own arrangements. Furthermore, we were privileged to have several contemporary pieces dedicated to us by the composers Udi Perlman and Oded Geizhals among others.  Each program becomes a journey between epochs, where tradition meets curiosity and known melodies take on unexpected colors.

The cello brings a depth and warmth that grounds the music, while the guitar adds lightness and transparency. Together, we create spaces that invite listeners into something personal, almost private—moments where music feels less like performance and more like a shared emotional and intellectual experience.
