Biography

Guy Woodcock was born in Israel and has been living in Berlin since 2013, where he works as a guitarist and guitar teacher.

Guy currently performs in chamber music ensembles and is also active as a soloist. In Duo Shiluv with cellist Clara Franz, Guy and Clara combine contemporary music with works from other eras to create engaging and captivating programs. Together with guitarist Victor Santana, Guy has arranged and published Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin for two guitars and voice; a recording of the work is currently in progress. Guy also collaborates regularly with guitarist Josep López and is a member of the ensembles Jarock and Die Goldvögel. His solo recital programs The Guitar of the Baroque and Goya’s Spain can presently be heard in and around Berlin.

In September 2023, Guy received first prize at the 1st International “Ferdinand Rebay” Competition in the solo guitar category. He also won second place at Israel’s National Guitar Competition at the Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem and was a four-time recipient of the America–Israel Cultural Fund scholarship.

In July 2018, Guy completed his bachelor’s degree at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin under Prof. Eugenia Kanthou. From January to July 2020, he spent a semester abroad at the ESMUC in Barcelona studying with Prof. Laura Young. In July 2021, he graduated from the master’s program in instrumental performance at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) with the highest distinction. Since January 2021, Guy has been a faculty member at the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf Public Music School.

Guy has performed regularly for, among others, the Live Music Now Foundation, Musethica Berlin, and the Berlin and Brandenburg Guitar Festivals.
