Duo López - Woodcock

I founded the López–Woodcock Duo together with Peruvian guitarist Josep López in 2014, during our studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. From the very beginning, we discovered a strong musical connection, and since then we have performed widely in Germany and abroad, both in concert halls and more intimate chamber settings.

Our duo explores a broad repertoire, from Romantic works by Antoine de Lhoyer and Enrique Granados to 20th-century masterpieces by Manuel de Falla, Leo Brouwer, and Astor Piazzolla. From Scarlatti sonatas to Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Well-Tempered Guitars, our concerts invite audiences to experience the richness and variety of music written for, or beautifully adapted to, two guitars.

With my American background and Josep’s Peruvian heritage, we were inspired to create our current program, “American compositions.” This program highlights the wide expressive range and emotional depth of the classical guitar through a colourful repertoire: a fresh reinterpretation of George Gershwin’s iconic Three Preludes for Piano, the passionate tango world of Astor Piazzolla, the harmonic richness of Radamés Gnattali’s Brazilian works, and the hypnotic minimalism of Steve Reich. The title carries a double meaning: it honors both the works themselves and the cultural diversity of the Americas, where each piece reflects the unique traditions and influences that continue to shape the region’s musical identity.
